The Wolf & The Raven

Why we use the symbols of the Raven and the Wolf...

 The Wolf

The Wolf is a creature with a high sense of loyalty and strength. The Wolf is a social creature, friendly, and gregarious with its counterparts. They are incredible communicators. By using touch, body movements, & eye contact as well as many complex vocal expressions - the wolf makes his point understood.

Wolves mate for life. The clan has a solid social structure, in which all adults participate in the upbringing of the young. Wolves are fiercely loyal to their mates, with a strong sense of family whilst upholding individualism. Though their clans are highly organized, they are truly free spirits. They seem to go out of their way to avoid a fight.

The Raven
Mischievous and curious the Raven symbolizes creation, knowledge, and prestige as well as the complexity of nature and the subtlety of truth. The Raven was often called upon to clarify truths in visions, as the wise elders knew that what the eye sees is not always the truth.
Many of the original peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast refer to him as a god, and it is believed by some that messages from the creator or the cosmos are buried in the wings of the Raven only to be released to the families most deserving of his knowledge.
Ravens are a highly successful species due to their high level of intelligence, flexibility, and adaptability. The Raven (and Crows) not only use "tools" to assist their needs, but in many cases will alter an object to turn it into the tool they need.
